I know we were all told as kids to brush your teeth for 2 minutes twice a day. At least, I know I was. However, this was never something that was super important to me. I didn’t care much for how my teeth looked or how my mouth tasted as a kid, I just wanted to have a good time and not worry about taking care of my teeth. However, things have become a lot different as I’ve grown up. Not only is there a lot of money invested into my teeth (my parents paid for me to get braces) but I now realize the importance of having good looking teeth. It’s crazy to think that your teeth are the only bones in your body that will never grow back or repair themselves. This fact is a little bit daunting. What you’ve got is all you’ve got, unless you can go to the dentist and get replacements put in; but even then, it’ll never be the same as the set of teeth you were born with.

At least in modern America, teeth have become an important part of people’s first impressions. I know that I always notice people’s teeth when I first meet them, and sometimes I feel like someone’s teeth says a lot about them. However, I myself get very insecure about my teeth looking nice and have spent a lot of money and time to make sure they are looking all spick and span. That’s why I have done a lot of research into the importance of brushing your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes. I can say from personal experience, this is nothing to take lightly. Taking care of your teeth should be one of the most important parts of your day from the moment you wake up to the second you go to bed.
Brushing your teeth can help prevent tooth decay in a variety of ways. Our diets as Americans include so much more sugar than what used to be natural in the world. For a long time, people in history didn’t need to worry as much about cavities because they were not eating nearly the same amount of sugar that we are. Sure, they had to worry about other things like polio and not starving in the winter and all that, but we have it pretty rough too! Developing cavities in a tooth can actually cause complete loss of that tooth if the dental decay is bad enough. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy! Brushing your teeth also helps with bad breath, which is helpful in attracting the ladies (or the guys) if you are into that sort of stuff. Bad breath is also a huge part of first impressions in my opinion, and no one likes to smell your nasty rotting teeth wafting over the dinner table at your mother-in-laws birthday party.

It is also important to brush your teeth to prevent gum disease. Lacking in the brushing department can cause the onset of gum disease which can lead to some serious medical problems. Brushing ensures the removal of plaque, which is the main source of this as well as tooth decay. I hope you take this article to heart and start brushing your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes!
